For this Friday’s issue of the Friday Kaimin, we’re doing a special food issue. I shot a few different things, but few of them are traditional food shots. (And yes, the “Hungry?” was written with ketchup)
1. AJ Versus.
So every other Friday we (multimedia editor Brady Moore) produce a video called “AJ Versus” where one of our sports reporters goes up against athletes at their own sports. (They can be found here and here.) This week we did a special edition for the food issue. AJ went up against 2 offensive lineman in an eating competition at the Double Front Cafe. The Double Front Cafe is known for their fried chicken, and all three contestants were given 4 chicken dinners, equaling 2 whole chickens. They weighed the meat before the contest started, and each of them had around 63 ounces of chicken, or about 4 pounds. Anyway, AJ didn’t lose for once, he came in second, and was in fact pretty close to being first.
Here’s the video.
Photos from that plus more inside!
2. The Oxford.
The Oxford is probably one of the oldest establishments in Missoula, and is an interesting place. There is no good way for me to describe it because I can’t write my way out of a paper bag. They have a great meal called the JJ’s Special, it’s chicken fried steak, hash browns, 2 eggs, and toast. All covered in a special gravy, so special that only 2 people know the recipe.
Here’s a shot of the meal, and a shot of our wonderful Kaimin staff enjoying it.
